Hi! I’m Kim Barker-Craven, author and founder of BigHandGirl.com. I am a breast cancer survivor with Breast Cancer Related Lymphedema (BRCL). I have been cancer-free since diagnosis in June 2006 (which is fantastic and I am very grateful), but it is the Lymphedema – brought on by surgery and radiation treatment – that has been a chronic, ongoing and debilitating medical condition at times.

I am, by nature, an avid researcher. That’s not my ‘day job,’ it’s just part and parcel of who I am. I was having a very hard time learning about my lymphedema, and finding treatment for it. As my lymphedema has progressed I have became more dogged in my research about lymphedema and this website seems like a great way to share what I am learning along the way.

I want to bring awareness to the fact that Lymphedema is a medically-created condition that can be life-threatening if not managed properly.
